Victoria, BC—October 1, 2018: Aeolis is pleased to announce that the 15 MW Moose Lake Wind Project, near Tumbler Ridge in northeastern BC, is nearing completion.
Developed in partnership with Boralex Inc. and based on an Electricity Purchase Agreement (EPA) from BC Hydro concluded in December 2015, the project features Class 1 winds (average wind speed of >8.5 m/sec) captured by four 4.2 MW Enercon E141 turbines, derated to 3.75 MW to comply with the 15 MW capacity requirements of BC Hydro’s Standing Offer Program.
Moose Lake is the first site in North America at which the E141 turbines—amongst the biggest land-based wind turbines in the world—have been installed. These giant turbines have a rotor diameter of 141m (462 ft) that efficiently captures the strong, smooth and unidirectional winds of the high-elevation ridges of the Peace River Region. With a gross capacity factor exceeding 50% the Moose Lake Wind Project will produce energy at a level comparable to large BC Hydro projects like Site C.
Moose Lake Wind Project is the first true high-energy wind site to be developed in BC and is a harbinger of future projects that will harvest this clean and competitive energy resource that has a key role in the decarbonization of our society.
