In-house acumen
In 2003-2008 Aeolis’ in-house expertise at analyzing terrain and meso-climate data provided us with a distinct advantage in prospecting for and securing leases for some of the best wind park sites in the world. Now that we have these sites and installed over 40 meteorological (met) towers, we are focused on collecting wind data, analyzing it at our Victoria office, obtaining environmental assessments and power purchase agreements, and developing our sites into highly efficient sources of clean electricity.
Wind data collection and satellite transmission station
Aeolis met towers feature the finest equipment for collecting data and transferring it via satellite and CDMA network to Aeolis servers, allowing us to know precisely — on a daily basis — conditions at each site where towers are installed. Our system also sends the data to a third-party consultant, WSP, whose proprietary software, WindServer™, provides total data management, generating a second opinion and a detailed record of all met tower events.
Aeolis was the first Canadian wind developer to apply LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology, which enhances data accuracy and analysis. We have used the ZephIR® (Natural Power) and the WindCube® (Leosphere), both of which provide true measurements at the top and bottom of blade tips, as well as at hub height. These measurements are essential for accurately calculating energy potential.
Aeolis’ in-house team also uses WindPro® and WindSim® to run regional meso- and micro-numerical models based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). In conjunction with this, one of Aeolis’ closest partners, AL-PRO GmbH & Co. KG, conducts a broad range of essential studies, including those for optimizing wind park layout. Other companies Aeolis has engaged to develop the most extensive wind data collection and analysis program in BC include GENIVAR Engineering, Helimax, Garrad Hassan, 3Tier, and GEC.
